Spartan Race 2016 - Team Canada Shriners Hospital
We Are Proving Obstacles Can Be Overcome
For the second year in a row, Shriners Hospitals for Children® Canada is a Spartan Race charity partner. The idea? To convey that so much is possible when we put our mind to it. Three of our patients intend to prove that this year by running Spartan Races.
Last year, 17 year old Jeffrey proved obstacles could be overcome by finishing not one but four Spartan Races... with a prosthetic on his right foot and no right hand. This year, he aims to complete a "Trifecta": running a 5 km, a 13 km and a 20 km Spartan Race!
18 year old Philippe will be joining him trying his first Spartan Race this year. Born with cerebral palsy, Philippe has had four surgeries at Canada Shriners Hospital and has been a patient nearly all his life.
14 year old Aurélie was born with one leg shorter than the other. She had major surgery two years ago to correct the bone deficiency and her bone has succeeded in growing 50 millimeters! Despite the long and sometimes painful recovery, Aurélie is back into sports... and like Philippe, is trying her first ever Spartan Race this year!
Encourage them all in their Spartan Race goal. All money donated will go to Canada Shriners Hospital to help more kids walk, run... and maybe even run Spartan Races too some day.
